Conference Bike Nutters Glasgow

www.cosybike.co.uk

Its official! Glasgow is populated by nutters who want to go cosybiking in the winter. Or maybe they just enjoyed being celebrities for half an hour and waving at everyone like the Queen.

Teenagers - remember cosybike IS cool if you leave your Mum and Dad behind and bring  all your friends.  You can send them off to be babysat by the National Trust or the Burrell Collection at Pollok Park.  Cosybike can come to your house too making you look even cooler.

Vice versa - Glasgow Green is a good bet if you want the teenagers out the way,  Argyle Street and  A1 Comics  are not far away.

Happy Hogmanay!  We are off to a New Year swim in the Sea, Jan 1st.  That is Cool.  About 6 Degrees!!

Helensburgh Christmas Lights switch on.

Thanks again to all my riders on Sunday. You were the loudest bunch so far. So much screaming! And that was just the Dads! I had a great time and I think you all did too. Sorry I couldn't manage to get everyone a go, but I'm sure the cosybike will be back in Helensburgh soon. And remember if you can't wait until the next event, you can hire the bike for a birthday party or a wedding or whatever you can think of. Keep an eye on the Helensburgh Advertiser some of you might be appearing in there with any Luck.

Quotes of the day

Euan Bell age 7? - "This is living Hell!" (Big grin, pedalling like mad and ringing the bell)

"Can you come to my Birthday on the 22nd of September 2008 at 1pm please?"

Cosybike would love to. I wish I was that organised and planned that far ahead

Walter Smith is switching on the Lights!

Cosybike mixes with the famous again. Some years it's Morgan Freeman and Jet Li, others it's Football Managers. Surely I'm allowed to name drop on occasion? Did I tell you I know "Raven" and "Miss Hoolie" too!

Kinetic Art meets Artistic Engineering. Cosybike to the rescue!

What do you do when you have 8 cases of kinetic sculpture that needs delivered to a shop window in the merchant city? When cosybike heard The Sharmanka Gallery were planning to shift the cases 5 blocks by hand, cosybike stepped in and offered them use of the Cosywagon. Little did Eduard, Tatiana, Sergey, Misha and Kerry (Token Scottish girl) know that logistical excercises could be so much fun. Obviously the bike had to come out to get the cases in! They are natural conference bike riders and Eduard had the engineering sussed within seconds. The cases were shifted in no time and you will see the results at the top end of Albion street over Christmas.

This gave me an idea for a very special day out and one you could only get with cosybike. How about a tour of Glasgow green and the Merchant city on the bike, lunch at the Peoples Palace then delivery by conference bike to a special show at The Sharmanka Gallery? Just for you. 07789 912 462 to book. Its magic! The Sharmanka Gallery is one of Glasgow's hidden gems.

Woo Hoo! The Commonwealth Games is coming!

Although we nearly missed the announcement because of a cockup by the BBC! At our works party at my real job, our Compere was still teaching the appropriate win or lose response to our 200 excited schoolchildren when the pyros fired and Alex Salmond started hugging other politicians. That's a sight not to be seen! (only kidding Alex)

Cosybike signed up to back the bid and I'm sure we will busy that year. So book ahead now for 2014. Cosybiking might even be a competing event by then!

Other news
This pedicab company are about to launch in Glasgow soon. With a bit of support from all and the pending C'wealth Games maybe we can Get Glasgow City Council to allow Licensing of Pedicabs.

Cosyhalloween in the Merchant City

Kareoke Conference Bike Mayhem! This evening, Batman, Princess Lei ah?, a breathalyser, Dame Edna, Amy Winehouse and various others were to be seen pedalling round the merchant city between songs at The Tron Theatre's Halloween Party.

A highlight was this passenger. www.weegiantpuppets.com/weegiant.swf Yes, the big blue monster called Soor Plum from weegiant puppets was chauffered around. He likes to wave at people and make them laugh. (Andy Gaukel)

We also kidnapped some unsuspecting italians and some other folk that were just passing. They loved it! Bella Fantastique!
Will try and post some video soon!

GMBC Mugdock cyclocross. and Hella'een

80 plus riders! Apparently the biggest cx field ever seen in scotland! and thats not including the juniors.

I was assisting my mountain bike club with the running of our race at Mugdock country park. Somehow I ended up assisting with the time keeping...badly! With 80 riders it was quite a challenge. I managed to get split times for the juniors but for the big race the timer reset to zero. I must have stopped it instead of pressing split. Apparently there is fundraising going on for a proper chip timing system. If participtating numbers remain that high it will be a great investment!

One of the riders managed to pull out the plug, for the Alpine Bikes inflatable banner on the first lap. Much scurrying to clear the deflating uncontrollable sausage from the course before the riders came round on the next lap! It was windy!

The cosybike was also there. I was able to give few rides afterwards to loads of people. The Junior Racers reached the top speed yet on the flat AND actually wanted to climb a huge hill. They could have gone faster but the carpark was quite small. A very polite well behaved bunch of kids.

Halloween - I have decided that the evil fairymonster of death will be suitable attire. Unless I change my mind. Again.

A Christmas lights Switch On! - 25th November

Cosybike is booked for rides 2-4pm on the 25th of Nov in Helensburgh. Will keep you posted on other attractions that will be there too. Like me!

I once prepped all the fairy lights for George Square in Glasgow. I got fed up coiling them so laid them all out in lines in the street (It was a quiet road but Aeroplanes kept landing that afternoon for some reason?) then I attached my patented winder to a battery drill and ...zapped them all in 20 minutes. Genius.

A true stoy...apart from the planes.

Funny measurements

"There are an estimated 15,000 dogs in the Carlisle city council area, producing 3 tonnes of faeces every day - enough to cover 17 football pitches each year. "

I love these units of measurement. One whale seems to equal a london bus or 3 elephants. That equals 6 children in a car crash because they become baby elephants on impact. 3 airbus = 1 football pitch..blah blah

It could be worse. At least people don't seem to keep whales or elephants as pets very often.

Wind powered kinetic sculpture from Theo Jansen

I think these these are amazing. Just a pity it's a car ad. (other transport alternatives are available!)

You can see some great Russian kinetic sculpture in Glasgow, in the merchant city. at http://www.sharmanka.com

Pimp My Ride!

Cosybike is all dressed up for her parade. Colour changing LEDS, strobes, Blue wash lights and some fog lights. Can't wait till it gets dark. I wonder how many UFO sightings will be reported in the south side tonight!?

There have been three huge cheers from the football at Hampden Park so Scotland must be doing OK! Its sure going to be an interesting delivery to the parade route. David Sneddon (Not that one, the other one) is coming to be a pedalling assitant.

A freecycler (Thanks Willie Fleming) lent me a car amplifier so I could play some tunes but unfortunately I can't get it to work and I've run out of time. was an after thought anyway will just have to ring the bell lots!

Portobello Car Free Day

After commandeering some pedalling assistants (A wizard, a ladybird, Dalmation? and a man dressed...as a Man) we embarked on a high speed downhill to the promenade to lead off the Dressed up bike parade. Silly costumes, decorated bikes, gardening bikes, glittery bikes you name it, it was there!

Portobello's promenade traders are missing out on so much business with a cycling ban on some parts of the promenade. Hungry and thirsty family cyclists will go elsewhere.
There was only one pedestrian moaning about the bikes, but I suspect he is a "local character"

Cosybike moved gently and safely through the pedestrians and made everyone smile.

For the rest of the day we did rides through the narrow streets and round the portobello parks.

The Highlight of the day was finding out lots of my riders were "Chernobyl Children" from Belarus. They are STILL suffering the effects. Lots of them are brought over to the UK every year for a term in school, doctors visits, dental visits, and Fun stuff like riding my bike! Woo Hoo! They loved it! FOCC contact me now, I'm sure we can arrange more trips.

Cosy News New Blog opened, Smells like a new TV. I've turned the box into a wendy house.

Here is where we will document cosybike appearances. I hope you are all holding on tight and are prepared for the emergency stop test. You will be warned before this happens.

3, 2, 1, STOP!

Smashing. We can now continue with the ride, Everybody Pedal!

560 riders since we started in August! I'm knackered, so am going for a snooze now. You'll have to wait for a bit for more of this blogging malarky. If you're lucky it might even get funny. It will be no soap opera though, you will not be hearing about about funny cooking incidents or insignicant decisions I have to make.
